Well, looks like the truth is coming out on Baez, J.A.B. For 8 years after graduation, the board that screens prospective attorneys in FL, would not let Baez practice law. The FL Supreme Court agreed with this decision due to unpaid bills, extravagant spending and other “financial irresponsibility” at that time. Before he was admitted to the FL Bar, he had to demonstrate that he had rehabilitated himself.
Noted, his behavior showed “a total lack of respect for the rights of others and a total lack of respect for the legal system, which is absolutely inconsistent with the character and fitness qualities required of those seeking to be afforded the highest position of trust and confidence recognized by our system of law.”
Baez taught internet research to lawyers in the Miami-Dade public defenders office and started 4 business ventures, including 2 bikini shops. Bon Bon Bikinis and Brazilian-Bikinis.Com, LawStudentWebsites.Com and LawyerConcepts, plus applying for a real estate license….is what Baez was up to.
Baez was in the Navy, got out after 3 years as yeoman seaman, or an E-3. He divorced his first wife and failed to pay child support. He graduated 6 years later from Florida State University. In 1997 he graduated form St Thomas University School of law in Miami. In 1998 he was called before the FL Board of Bar examiners. The Supreme court ordered to review uncovered debts and other problems.
According to the Supreme Court summary of the case, the Board of Bar Examiners filed formal allegations against J.A.B. in September 1998. In addition to unpaid child support, a personal bankruptcy and default on a student loan, the investigators said he left out parts of his history, including that he wrote a bad check and entered a pretrial program to avoid conviction.
In 2001Baez created a nonprofit group, the Miami Domestic Violence Project. It dissolved two years later. In 2004, Baez created another nonprofit in Miami, Miracles for Children Foundation Corp., according to state records. It continued until Sept. 2005. Annual reports are not available on either of these “NON”-profit organizations.
Just some problems:
√In 1990 he filed Bankruptcy.
√In 1995 FAILED to pay his student load for $4,336.00.
√In 1995 Leased a Mazda Miata, considered unnecessary expense when he owed money to others.
√In 1998 Baez was reassigned at the public defenders office, to a job that did NOT require a law degree. He resigned in 1999.
√In 2004 he owed some $12,000.00 in back child support. It is said that an agreement was made to pay this…..Miami court HAD to dock $550 a month from his pay. Sounds like the court made him pay the child support.

am not sure who baez is, but i know that kc is a mom who just wanted the bella vita and her little girl was in her way. I know that she is now wasting taxpayers money by this sham of a made for tv clourtroom drama. She should give her daughter the justice she didn’t get in life and take a plea and go quietly to her cell room. Those plastic tears that pour out when they speak of Caylee, are tears of shame at herself, bc she knows what she did. Cindy looked like her BP was bursting!! This girl is causing so much pain and grief on every single level of life, to her family, to Caylee, to Florida, to judicial system, to morals, to legal/police, to media and she is doing it on a daily basis. He still seems real agitated about the Prosecution wanting to know “how is someone getting paid…..how much money do they have…?”…..thought it was very unusual for the Prosecution to even ask! So, in his mind they only wanted to know in order to raise the bar (put the DP back on the table) to bankrupt Casey!
Of course, we know Judge Perry denied this motion, Baez just used the media to have the last word on the subject.
It appears that the DUHfense strategy so far anyway is a 2-prone strategy of 1) SODDI (Some Other Dude Did It) and 2) LE and the Prosecution set out to “pin this” on Casey without doing a thorough investigation of any other possible suspects.
Good morning Lee and Smoke&Mirrors. I am already feeling Caseyed out. Ugh. Still a whole year more of this. Am I correct that the producer from ABC is always in attendance? If that is so, my guess is that they are preening Cindy, and working on a documentary for future use. There is probably some deal in the works, somewhere. And, so very strange that Mr. Conway didn’t accompany Cindy to court. This was a very important hearing regarding the DP for Casey. I can’t believe that George and Mr. Conway did not attend. If the reason for George is that he cannot tolerate certain words being used, then he should be ready for a wake up call. What we heard yesterday is nothing compared to what will come out at trial. Or, as is being speculated throughout the blogs, maybe he got a job. Also, isn’t Cindy’s disability coming to an end soon? Why does it aggravate me so much that these people don’t work for a living? Guess it is because we have always worked for every penny we ever had. I don’t have anything to add to all the comments from yesterday’s hearing, so I’ll just continue reading old documents, and just generally lurk around. One thing I was thinking while watching the defense sitting there was I wonder what they were thinking, knowing they are not receiving a salary for being there, or for any work they do. I know I would not be happy. It was very obvious to me that Mr. Biaz hardly acknowledges Casey. He handed a tissue to Casey without so much as looking at her. My final thought for now is that Cindy will be the only one to come out ahead when this is over, and she starts collecting monies from documentaries, movie deals, etc.. The defense won’t be allowed to do this, as I understand this.
Good morning friends: I agree with you Lee in your assessment! And I am truly surprised with bozo’s background that he is allowed to practice law on any level. He probably advertises on Craigslist too. I know there are lawyers who are “shady” but I thought that their backgrounds had to be pretty clean.
The only thing that would even remotely redeem casey in anyway is to confess and take her punishment and stop putting everyone through this circus. I for one, and I think many of you can only take this in small doses. I get so upset that I have to walk away from it for a week or two and I don’t even live in Florida!

Jim Lichtenstein, the Producer does manage to make every court hearing with or without the Ants and/or Atty. Brad Conway. I agree with you about the documentary in the making and that Cindy plans to be the beneficiary. Now, if LE decided to arrest her later on obstruction of justice charges, would that put a crimp in her plans for capitalizing on Caylee’s death? I sure hope so!
Unfortunately, because I have very limited understanding of how the Justice System works, at this point in the process, I have so many questions. At the top of the list, why is Baez allowed to continue as Lead Attorney of a Death Penalty case? Wasn’t it established sometime ago that with his lack of experience, Baez could not even qualify as 1st chair? Even in the face of having to work the case Pro Bono now, he continues to forge ahead on a mission of trying to find a technicality to get Casey acquitted.
IMO, he could care less about her guilt or innocence. Baez took his money off the top. Now he has to do some work for it! Casey should be asking herself… what has Baez accomplished for the $89k+ he has already pocketed. Hmmmm!
Speaking of work for the DUHfense, since the list of who will be scheduled for depositions is due next Monday, they better get busy! In the count of approx. 90 witnesses (non expert witnesses) the Prosecution projected the DUHfense may want to depos, there are 30+ LE from OCSO (only 8 have been depos to-date). If the DUHfense has deposed 36 witnesses, does that mean they will only have approx. 24 non-expert witnesses to target for depos? Or is the 90 count in addition to the 36?
Smoke, I am totally confused about how many witnesses are still to be deposed. I really couldn’t follow it in court. Seemed like there was a lot of mumbling, and difficult to understand. There were so many numbers thrown out and then changed, and then changed again, that I lost count. I’ll try to straighten it out. Did the defense really depose 36 witnesses? Do we know who they were?
I’m surprised that Kathi Belich doesn’t ask that question of Mr. Biaz, about his position on the defense team. I would like to hear it come from his mouth, uuhh ummm well, you see, why are you harassing me, next question, and on and on…………

Anyone know if that is rumor or is it true? If so, I must write to Casey and let her know that he is cheating on her.
Just a thought. What would happen is Mr. Biaz or the rest of the defense team got so fed up with Casey, and quit the case. Would they be allowed to? Wouldn’t that be an interesting scenario, as if this case isn’t weird enough now.

Casey prolly does not care what Tony L. is doing or who he is doing because he would not accept her desperate phone call from the 33rd ST Ritz on the night of her arrest. Or any other time for that matter. She is DONE with him! I don’t even recall Casey mentioning his name in the letters to cookie.

I really enjoyed the interview after court with Mr. Biaz yesterday. He was really pi..ed off about the questions asked about finances. Doesn’t he realize that we all want to know–we want to know everything. There is still money not accounted for, and I just don’t understand why he is not commanded to account for it. Guess his financial abilities and accounting haven’t changed since the Florida Bar refused him entrance because he was financially irresponsible.

I too have have limited knowledge of the legal system, but I do know if you fire an attorney, they (the attorney has to go before the court to be excused). I also remember early on that Jose was NOT DP qualified, so I too wonder why he fills the chair….he should be an errand boy at this point as he is definitely out of his league! I see him as someone who would hang out at jails or bail bond offices just lurking for his next “case” to come along.
Also, IMO sindy and georgie aren’t out of the woods yet, they still have to testify, georgie has testified before the Grand Jury, if he changes his testimony he’s toast cause that was under oath. I’m not clear what sindy testified to under oath, but they have much to worry about….so if sindy is looking forward to monies from “deals” she’s planning that is a bit premature!

I thought that was frowned upon by Fox.

Since Ms. Barrett did not have to testify in this hearing, I hope she just happened to be in Orlando for purposes of completing her assignment – interviews. And don’t forget to keep detailed time records, because Judge Perry is going to go over them with a “fine tooth comb!”
I like the fact that Perry has a more serious decorum in the courtroom. Casey was having a fun time under Strickland on too many occasions. However druing the death penalty hearings I noticed that the nastiness between the death prosecutor and Lyon and Baez was heating up again. It is unprofessional and Perry should put a stop to it. I hope the death prosecutor can hide his partisan streak during the penalty phase.
