According to Baez, they must explore potential mental health issues in any death penalty case. But to me it sounds like they are going to try and claim some sort of excuse for the reason Casey killed Caylee. I would have thought they would have brought this guy in at the beginning of this case. I am very curious to who paid for this Dr of Psych to visit Casey!
I guess since Andrea Lyon couldn’t get the death penalty off the table, the d-team thinks they will bring this guy in and try to verify Casey’s claims of being sexually abused by George. But there isn’t anything that Casey says, that is proof of abuse. Casey has lied from day one, and she is just a born killer. And if he talks to her long enough, he should figure that Caylee was an abused child, not Casey.
Remember Baez trying to seal Casey’s visitor records? Motion![Terrible file] The Judge denies it! But in the motion the d-team claims it won’t be able to prepare their case properly. My goodness, if the visitor log is causing them trouble, Casey is in real need of different counsel!
At this point in time, I think it too little to late for the d-team to try and pull the wool over everyone eyes.

But the main point of Bob Kealing’s reporting tonight was that Baez can’t withdraw as the attorney for Casey Anthony. She is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.
“I would be shocked if Judge [Belvin] Perry let anybody withdraw now,” criminal defense attorney Jeff Deen said in offering analysis for WESH.
Kealing and Deen pointed to new law passed in reaction to the Anthony case. The law aims to prevent a private attorney from leaving a case when a client becomes indigent.
Deen explained: “If you start out with a private lawyer and you pay that lawyer, and then you go to the court and ask that the state pay your costs, if that lawyer now tries to withdraw, it’s not permitted by statute anymore that the person would get a state-appointed lawyer.”
The law went into effect July 1, meaning that Baez’s window for getting out had closed. Kealing said that Baez had not responded to requests for comment.
WFTV-Ch. 9’s Kathi Belich took stock of Baez’s Kissimmee home. “It’s a very nice house with a screened pool and a fireplace in a gated country club community,” she said.
She highlighted that his monthly mortgage payment is $4,500, but he hadn’t paid it since August 2009.

Casey was declared indigent in March 2010. At least the Indigency Hearing was held 18 March 2010. Not sure of the date of the actual order, but it was executed soon thereafter. That said, though… if Baez wants to wiggle out of representing Casey now that he is going to have to actually work for no more pay, he better come up with a darn good excuse for Judge Perry.

Casey was declared indigent on 19 March 2010, way before the new amendment date of July 1, 2010.

I did however find a much more interesting document about Jose Baez. A judgement against him for the sum of $4094.47 plus court costs of $310.00, the total owing being $4404.94. A paltry sum for a man of Jose Baez’s stature? But one that he failed to pay. I did contact the company that initiated the court action, Orange Reporting Inc., it did take three levels of management, but finally I got conformation of the events (although no details).
Orange Reporting Inc. are a court reporting service, Mr Baez had retained them to perform (likely) depositions. He had not paid the bill in a timely fashion, and so they took him to small claims court!
Oh, and the date of this judgement was March 09. The company however did point out that this ‘collection’ activity was not related to the Caylee Anthony case.

• On 4 June 2010 transcription – service 4 depos (Debbie Bennett, JP Chatt, Brian Burner and Samara Melich). Invoice amount = $245.
• On 17 June 2010 transcription – service 5 depos (Debbie Polisano, Charles Crittenden and Brett, Shelly & Kristin Churchill). Invoice amount = $245.
