In the Shaniya Nicole Davis story, Antoinette Davis’ next court day will be 11 August 2010. She is charged with human trafficking, felony child abuse-prostitution and filing a false police report. Death row inmate refuses to leave cell for hearing

Death Row inmate John Huggins refused to appear via video conference call at a hearing this morning that was originally intended to deal with his request to fire his legal team.
Orange-Osceola Chief Judge Belvin Perry questioned a corrections officer up at the state prison complex near Starke about Huggins. The officer said he refused to leave his cell and remained on his bunk this morning, when asked to go to another room to take part in the hearing, scheduled for 10:30.
Huggins’ defense attorney, meanwhile, argued that an upcoming hearing on post-conviction appellate claims made in this case should be delayed until the question of whether Huggins is competent is settled.
But Perry insisted that a hearing long scheduled for next month will go on regarding certain claims, while the question of Huggins’ competence is still being decided. Perry plans to spell out which claims will be heard in an order soon to be released. Some of those claims involve ineffective counsel and prosecutorial misconduct.
Perry said “this case is mired in quicksand” and said he can’t know for sure if Huggins is refusing to cooperate with his lawyers because he is delusional or because he is trying to delay the process.
Also, Perry said he may compel Huggins to be transported to Orlando for that hearing whether he wants to attend or not.
The parties had some discussion about whether to hold the hearing, which may last a few days, at the prison in northern Florida. But ultimately Perry decided to hold it at the Orange County Courthouse because many of the witnesses are in and around Orlando and the trip to Starke would be an inconvenience for many involved.
“We will have it here,” Perry said. “If he refuses to come…well, let me think about it. I think I will have him transported.” more>>>

But Anthony attorney Jose Baez took time to weigh in on coverage that his Kissimmee home is in foreclosure. WESH-Ch. 2’s Bob Kealing said Baez “joked” about the reporting, but Baez sure didn’t seem like he was joking.
“The next time you want to send helicopters over my house, let me know,” Baez told reporters. “You know how much helicopter fuel costs these days? I would have gladly have taken photos of my house, inside and out, if you would have donated that money to charity.”
Baez looked utterly serious. Kealing reported that Kronk and his attorney would talk to the press after today’s deposition.
At noon, stations previewed the deposition. Baez said the defense would talk to Kronk about everything. “There are a lot of statements we’re concerned about,” Baez told reporters. “We’re hoping Mr. Kronk will tell the truth.”
To that, WFTV-Ch. 9’s Kathi Belich added, “There’s no indication that Kronk has ever lied.”
Kronk found the remains of Caylee Anthony. Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter.
Defense attorney Cheney Mason told reporters the Anthony team is focusing on “establishing reasonable doubt in various aspects of the case.”
WFTV’s Belich noted that this was the second time the defense had deposed Kronk. “They smeared him after his first deposition, releasing videotaped statements from disgruntled family members,” Belich said. Belich noted that an ex-wife accused Kronk of binding her with duct tape and that duct tape was found on the remains of Caylee Anthony.
The attorney for Kronk today dismissed the ex-wife’s allegations as ridiculous.

Kealing noted that Anthony’s defense team “slipped away without answering more questions about how today’s deposition went.” Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. Before the deposition, Anthony defense attorney Cheney Mason said the team was “focusing on establishing reasonable doubt for various aspects of the case.”
WFTV-Ch. 9 anchor Bob Opsahl highlighted that Kronk is a key prosecution witness and the defense wants to discredit him.
Even as he talked about doing the right thing, Kronk acknowledged that he has faced terrible pressure and that “some horrible things” have been said about him on blogs.
David Evans, Kronk’s attorney, flatly denied an allegation by Kronk’s ex-wife that he restrained her with duct tape.
WFTV’s Kathi Belich said, “The defense wants people to believe Kronk, who had no connection to Caylee when she was alive, murdered her, then — instead of keeping quiet to stay in the clear — brought attention to himself by calling law enforcement with the claim that he just found her.”
Belich asked Kronk and his attorney, David Evans, if that theory made sense.
“Of course it doesn’t make any sense,” Evans said. “That’ll be their burden … if they ever get an opportunity to try to convince a jury of this, have at it.”
Evans predicted his client will come through the ordeal ordeal with his reputation and dignity.
WFTV reported the defense canceled today’s deposition with former Anthony fiance Jesse Grund and rescheduled it to Aug. 11.
WESH and WOFL-Ch. 35 also turned to Jose Baez’s thoughts about the coverage that his home is in foreclosure. “I’ll tell you the rest of my problems, if you’re interested,” he said. Evidently it was a joke, although he said it wearily.
The defense wants a jury to hear Kronk’s ex-wives’ claims, but WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer agrees with Kronk’s lawyer that it’s highly improbable that the judge would allow that.

You tell me she is not lucid enought to stand trial??? BS…

If every person in the media that’s an recovering alcoholic said “Oh I’m a recovering alcoholic” what would people think if they slipped and got drunk??? It’s a big NO NO for people in AA
